Wow I really hadn't realized that I have let approximately 6 months go by without writing a peep on my blog. I knew it had been a long time but 6 months??? really??? I need to hit rewind to really look at the last year in my life as it has not been very productive when looking at weight/health happiness. My 36th birthday is coming up and a year ago I weighed about 20 pounds less. There is no one thing to blame my weight gain on as usual, it was more or less me sliding back into old bad habits which equates to eating more and working out less. I am the perfect example of 99% of people where I loose the weight and then put it back on. I have cycled up and down like this for the last 16 years of my life. Even my blog trends a few of my ups and downs. From a mental standpoint I don't understand why I work so freaking hard to turn around and throw it all away. I don't know if I will ever figure that out but as I have said before I really have no option but to press on, that's what life is. I have gotten back to a point where I don't feel good about myself, my clothes are getting tight, I dread taking my shirt off *moobs*, my knees are bugging me, my foot has been sore, heart burn has been bugging me, workouts are painfully hard, I'm tired all the time, I get winded doing things that used to be easy, etc etc. All these things say "Hey Dumb Ass start working out and eating less/healthier".
I haven't really got a plan of attack yet but I thought this blog would be a good place to start. My wife and I have been reading The Primal Blueprint which pretty much outlines a paleo diet with a few different twists. Pretty much a caveman diet and I know many of the people that might read this are doing a similar diet or have at least heard about them. The theory/book/lifestyle makes allot of sense to me as does the diet. However, I am having a hard time excepting a low carb diet because I love dairy, some complex carbs, and beer of course. I do realize that its pretty much impossible to follow any style of diet 100%. I need to find a nice % that I can live with (maybe 80% as Mark suggests). I also know that I need exercise in my routine. I loved p90x but find it almost a little over the top for my current physical fitness level. Part of me thinks that its me just sandbagging and that I should man up and just do the program but in truth it is pretty extreme workout regiment. To truthfully figure that out I think I need to outline some more solid goals. I know my main focus is to loose weight/body fat. That has always been my number one goal. So I know I really need to focus on my diet first and exercise second....
I haven't stepped on the scale more than a handful of time in the last 6 months. I truthfully don't know what I weigh right now. I would guess around 220.
Well this "I have been gone to long" post is getting to long so I will stop writing now. If anyone's still out there throw me a comment, it really does help having your support.

Nice to see you posting again. I *highly* recommend the Primal Blueprint plan, and I follow a similar approach in my own diet and lifestyle. You might want to check out the free Primal Blueprint Fitness ebook (http://www.marksdailyapple.com/primal-blueprint-fitness/) for some ideas about workouts. Basically the idea is to do lifts or bodyweight stuff 2-3 days a week, do a lot of low-intensity stuff like walking/easy bike riding throughout the week, and do some sprints once in a while.
If you have the money I would really suggest checking out your local Crossfit affiliate, especially if you liked the P90X workouts. Crossfit is the only program I've ever found that I enjoy and can stick with consistently.
On the diet side I would simply focus on eating more real food. For me, I cook one or two big batches of food on Saturday or Sunday and eat that along with dinner leftovers for lunch every day of the week. While my coworkers go out to eat every day (although I don't know how they can afford that) I always have delicious healthy food at hand. I'm only home about 3 hours a night during the week, so making the most of the weekends helps a ton. I know you've got a family with kids, whereas I'm a bachelor, but my dad does something similar and it works for him as well.
Sorry for the long comment, I'm just happy to see you back on here and want to offer whatever help/motivation/advice I can.
I'm glad to see you posting.. I've kept checking in on your blog occasionally in the last six months, hoping to see a post.
"Never give up, never surrender!" It's hard to change habits (understatement of the day, but consider other bad habits like smoking -- smokers often try to quit many times before becoming successful), but maybe this time you can find something that will work permanently for YOU.
Best wishes!
Hey Rip, welcome back (of sorts). I too have been absent far too long. I'm working on just over 6 months without a post. Everyone goes through "stuff" right? It's true what they say...it's not what happens to you it's how you handle it. Gotta go "get my post on".
What Elemi said about not giving up is true. I was a smoker for 10 years, and it took me well over a dozen tries at quitting before being successful. Keep at it and eventually it'll click.
I'm also glad to see you back. You've been a big supporter of everyone else and you really deserve the same. Come back to the blog-o-sphere with me and lets kick some butt.
Here's the thing, we all know maintenance is a bitch, but when you really think about it, doing the simple things are really key to not letting the weigh swings get out of hand. You gotta weight yourself. I do anyway. That's my main reason i put back 30 pounds. It's not really lifestyle, we all go through that, it's just the monitoring aspect. If your weight is up 5 pounds and you catch it early it's not a total life change to eat a little better or work out once or twice more for a few days to get it back in check. It's when we wait and we see the 10,20,30 pound ups that we get depressed. So it's simple, dont stop weighing. You don't even need to be told what to do after that because you will do it automatically.
thats my plan anyway, once i get back to where i want to be. I'm not making this stupid mistake again.
Aside from that, there is no reason to be down on yourself about the yo-yoing. just use it, learn from it and move on. I highly suggest getting on the scale and then setting a weight goal, then keep weighing yourself daily. You'll know what to do from there so just do it.
Hope to "see" ya soon.

It's been awhile and glad you came back. I am doing a mini-blog for the next 8 weeks, hope you can show me some support.
Wow... I think I could have written this post.
We have to remember that this is a lifelong commitment. It's good to see that you're not giving up.
