Comments On Comments

First off I would like to say thanks to all of you for leaving your thoughts whether they were positive, tuff love, or some where in between. I know all that have replied have invested some time into reading my blog and helping me along the way via your comments and writing of your own blogs so thanks for the continued support. I also wanted to say that allot of time when I blog I blog what I am thinking for the most part kind of uncensored, meaning I am trying to be as real as possible with no bs. With that said I would like to comment on a few of the comments.

I get what your saying about the magic number and that maybe I shouldn't be so caught up on hitting 180. I also agree that I have been at this for way too long. Truthfully I don't see any other way at it and I know deep down I will most likely always have to battle my weight. I also know that quitting or giving up is not really the answer. As for the cruise pics I agree that I look pretty normal, however I chose those pics because they were some of the better ones we took. Just for reference, and I have mentioned this before but at 6 foot and 200 pounds I carry about 24-25% body fat and have the physic of a tube of toothpaste. You can look back at this entry to see what I look like less the shirt (at cruise weight). I would say that yes I am a hardloser (have a hard time loosing fat weight) but yet a hardgainer too (hard time putting on any muscle mass or weight). I do gain strength in workouts but never much size. So in a sense my body is out of equilibrium (fat vs muscle). I have gotten really skinny before but it was fat skinny. I wish I could afford a personal trainer that I thought was worth his/her fees. All the trainers at the big clubs around here are mostly wannabees with little to no more knowledge than I already have. The problem with most trainers is they put everyone on the same canned plan (calc by using age, height, weight and some calorie equation) cause it worked for them or someone else. Well as you know everyone is different and so are their bodies/genetics. I have spent a ton of time reading, training, and educating myself about exercise, diet and all other things health. I have tried allot of different approaches and many have worked kind of but none have gotten me the results I have wanted (which I don't think are too over the top). Lastly I do very much appreciate my life, body, health, family, wife, friends, job, freedom, and everything else good in my life. I do know I am a lucky man to have what I have. Yesterday I was in a funk and blogged about how I was feeling.

Tigerlilly
Not getting off the roller coaster just trying to regain my momentum. I know the only answer is staying healthy and being alive for those I love. I still have tons of stuff I want to do and accomplish in this life. I will try not to throw anymore Ripx180 blogspot pity parties. :)

Johndanger
Thanks for stepping out of the woods and giving me some thoughts. We have a ton of stuff in common and I would really like to follow your progress if you have a blog (I see you have your profile locked down). I too have a 4 year old and almost 2 year old son. Sounds like you have lost a crazy amount of weight fast (50 lbs in 3 months is insane). I have done a low carb, lean meat and veggies diet in the past that worked well weight loss wise but I struggled with it after doing for like 5-6 months. I got tired of eating the same stuff all the time so I wouldn't eat very much and I think thats why I lost weight so fast. I just don't think I could avoid all grains, pastas, beans, rice etc as a lifestyle. The stuff I do eat most of the time is whole wheat/ healthier choices.

Once again thanks for the comments.

Diet yesterday was just ok. I did PlyoX last night and have a 4 mile run planned for tonight.

Ripx180 Furniture = LazyBoy....

WI: 205

I am still struggling with the mental portion of the game. I need to come up with a revelation that will re-energize my motivation and dedication to a healthy lifestyle that sticks for the long run. Like most people my will to loose weight and stay healthy ebbs and tides like the ocean. My cycles seem to go in 50 pound increments over about a 3 year period. In the summer of 2004 I had worked my way down to 194. By summer of 2007 I had worked my way back up to 243 pounds before becoming disgusted with myself once again. By the summer of 2009 (this last summer) i had moved back down to 195. Today I sit at 205 watching myself slowly head back in a direction I don't want to go. A place I have been before but only this time older with a less resilient body. Why is mid 190s my magic number where I get hung up in my adult life weight wise? The summer before my senior year I got down to 168 and felt pretty good. I was a little to skinny I think or I guess lacked muscle but I guess I was really young then. Mentally I am trying to figure out what clicks in the 190s to where I throw in the towel and quit caring. Its not that I don't care cause I do and I don't want to have to go through the weight loss process again. It also bugs me that I never really hit my major goal of 180 pounds. I know that 180lbs isn't a magic number that is going to make things in my bodies world perfect but mentally its where I have always wanted to get. Truth is I know overweight people struggle with maintaining their weight. I totally believe that 97% of people never really maintain there weight loss and up to this point I fit the demographic. Loosing weight is something that I know I can do cause I have done it a handful of times before. But maintaining it and reaching a goal weight is something I haven't been able to do. Doubt has really sunk deep into my head. I have lots of thoughts blaming my genetics and upraising for my weight issues and body image. Matter of fact there have been many days in the last few months where I just don't care or my mind is absent of any self regulation in regards to food. I have thought "whatever, it doesn't matter I am already fat and this one meal isn't gonna make it any worse" way to many times recently. The thing that drives me crazy is I feel like if I eat 1500 cals a day I maintain or barely loose and in return I can eat closer to 3k a day and maintain or barely gain.

I think part of my problem is my support group is running thin. Most of the people I hang out with (friends and family) are genetically skinny and don't have to worry about what they eat/drink. The ones that are over weight don't seem to care or weight loss/healthy lifestyles is not important to them. You know what they say about "when in Rome" = eating sh!t and drinking. Truthfully, the online community isn't really there anymore either (I am sure you are thinking "why is he writing this then?"). My answer is "I don't know" and most likely because blogging has helped me in the past (I do miss the FAT Coalition). I do have to say thanks to my one loyal reader David who has seemed to always have my back. If anyone reading this knows of any other on-line blog groups that are more involved give me a shout out. Even my wife is less involved with helping me out. Our house has more junk food in it, shes not working out much, and our cooking has been less healthy including much more eating out. She used to actually read my blog and be involved with my well being. I know she is still behind me and there for me but its not at the forefront of her mind. I guess we all have a thousand other things to worry about (finance, kids, jobs, relationships, houses, image, personal hobbies etc).

I know, I am being a debbie downer so I will quit. I also realize all the above is bunch of lame excuses and I only have myself to blame. I just need to get a grip.

I guess one semi good thing is I am still working out 3-4 times a week which is better than the average American.

Sorry for the really long winded ramble... back to the drawing board.

Ahhhh Snap!!!!!

Well I haven't weighed in since last week. About a week and a half ago I went for a 4 mile run. I pushed it harder than normal trying to increase my speed. Felt really good on the run and thought everything was great. Later that night I noticed my knee felt a little stiff. Anyway my knee has become really painful the last week and a half or so. I have tried to do anti inflammatories and it helps with the pain some but it always comes back. It doesn't hurt much when standing on it or walking. If I try to do stairs, push in my clutch, do squats or lunges, or sit with a bend in my leg it hurts really bad (not muscle sore more like tendon sore "ache"). Thus far in my life I have been really lucky and haven't had many injuries less a ankle sprain here and there. On top of missing several cardio days last week my diet has pretty much been sucking. I have been drinking more booze on the weekends and eating lots of carbs and fat (pretty much stuff I know I shouldn't be eating). So I am pretty ticked at myself right now cause I am throwing away allot of hard work. The super sucky thing is I cant seem to get things turned around mentally or physically. I have come a long way and I don't want to have to fight that same fight again.... Send me good thoughts vibes to help get me back on track.

Still Chugging Along

WI: 204.4

Still higher than I would like to see but it is what it is. I knew I
had gained some poundage on the cruise and my P90x workouts have left me really sore (assuming my muscles are holding onto extra water). Last week I hit 5 out of 6 workouts and my diet was mediocre. As predicted my diet will be the hardest to re-regulate, it always is. We had some really good BBQ off my smoker this last weekend and I ate leftovers (pork ribs). Pretty bad for you but taste oooohhhh so good. I need to get back to planning my meals then the stars should realign and my weight should start coming back down faster. I would like to be sub 200 again by the end of October. I am signing up for the Turkey Trot 5k again this year in Bend, OR and want to post a sub 30 minute time.... I guess I should say "I Will post a sub 30 min time". Tonight is either a run or PlyoX depending on the weather. Keep the blogs rolling people, I
love reading them.

Post Cruise..... Auto Pilot Off

WI: ???? gonna give myself a week to re-acclimate

I am back from the big Cruise of 2009 trip that I had been looking forward to for so long. I had a wonderful time and really enjoyed my time in the Caribbean. We were able to take this cruise less the kids given my in laws were in town and wanting to watch them for us. It really allowed my wife and I to reconnect and recharge our parenting batteries. By the end of the week I missed my little guys (sons) a ton though. We had 3 full days at sea and 3 ports (San Juan, St Marteen, and Labadee in Haiti. All three ports had tons to offer and I wish I had more time at each of them. To me that is the main downside to a cruise (you never stay anywhere for long). I did make 3 trips to the on board gym which was awesome by the way. With that said I pretty much ate and drank whatever I wanted to for 8-9 days strait too without much thought of trying to control damage or weight gain. I knew that was going to happen and I was willing to deal with it when I got home. Anyway the time flew by really fast but I have a week full of wonderful memories and tons of great pictures.

Enough talk about the cruise, back to normal scheduled programming. So starting yesterday I began my hybrid P90x/Insanity workout that I put together. It pretty much takes the majority of the weight lifting days of P90x and inserts Insanity workouts in the cardio days. It will allow me to tweak it a little as I go and offer much more variety. I did Chest and Back yesterday and I am really sore. I have lost a fair amount of strength in the push up and pull up area over the last few months. The thing I really noticed is my stamina for pull ups and push ups is way down too. Diet is definitely getting better with even more room for improvement. I want to get back on low carb for cardio days and slightly higher for weight lifting days. I can tell my weight is up as I feel more bloated and my clothes are slightly tighter. If I had to guess I would say I weight like 205ish. There were a few pictures taken of me with my shirt off which I really tried to avoid. Let me tell you I am no where near where I want to be body wise. I still wonder if my genetics will ever let me achieve the body image I would like to obtain. Even though I am somewhat strong my muscles do not show it. I am still very soft with a dough boy appearance. Pretty much like a bunch of fat hanging on a skeleton. But my mind continues to say "Theres no other option, keep trying".

Tonight brings Plyometrics which is a brutal P90x workout but something in me is still looking forward to jumping around with my old buddy Tony Horton.

Hope this finds you all well.... write a update on your blog, many of you are slacking in the blogging department. Lets change that, ok?

Missed Goals & A New Year

Well I missed my goal for being in the 180s for my 35th b-day and the cruise I am about to go on. Looking back I don't really know why. I had plenty of time to turn things around several times and make things happen. I am sitting here today right at 201 pounds feeling like I settled but knowing I still want to realize my goals one day and get into the 180s or lower. For me it is mostly to see my bodies potential or to maintain a healthy lifestyle that promotes a usable physic and long life. Some where around the house hunting and moving I lost some focus. It was not like I totally lost sight of my goals as I was still working out pretty regularly. Just not as much nor was the diet as tight as I would have liked it to be. Like I have always said I am not going to try to live in or examine the past because its all about today or the future in my book. I am going to enjoy my cruise but try to watch my portions and get in a few workouts while still trying to get some R&R from every day life. My goal is to come back refreshed with a new plan that puts more structure back into my workouts and eating. Last year wasn't a loosing season for me I made big changes for the positive. This year, my 35th year, I want to go all the way. I want to get to where I have always wanted to go and see what it will bring me. This is going to be the year of Ripx.... Be looking for a more outlined approach of what I am going to be doing in early October. I will leave you with a picture of a still goofy, trying to stay young, 35 year old man (at dinner for my b-day at the local fish house). For those of you still reading take care and keep blogging. Its your entries that help keep me going day to day in my weight loss quest.

Never Ending Battle

WI: 201

The weight is coming down slowly but I am still pretty sad to see that stupid 2 in front of it. So far this week I have been hitting all my workouts and diet has been descent (not 100% but better). I need to dig deep and find the weekend warrior of fitness. This weekend has no agenda and we are scheduled to be at home so I need to take the next 3-4 days and make them healthy. I need to watch my weight continue to go down on a weekend, which hasn't happened in a long time. The inlaws are due to arrive on Monday and I should be down about 25-30 lbs since last time I saw them. Our cruise is in 22 days so I have plenty of things to focus on. Hopefully I can report a weight with a 1 in front of it before end of day Monday. Hope everyone else is doing well, its been awfully quite in the blog-sphere the last few months (less a few of the troopers).

Just a Quick Blurp

WI: 199.8

Well last week was both good and bad. I had some good eating decisions and some bad ones. Only hit 3 workouts and am hoping to make this week much better. We went camping again last weekend and I did have some alcohol and bad eats. I did make a few good decisions along the way also though. This week I am aiming for a full 6 workouts and allot of clean eating. So far so good. Hope everyone else is doing well also.

Dissapointed & Depressed

Well I don't have much to say good so I will keep this short...

wi: 202

I spent a good weekend camping with just me and my older son Ryan with some friends from Seattle. It was our first father son camping trip and it was great (lots of good memories). The bad is it included allot of bad food and drink. Even though I think the 202 number is inflated by sodium and bad choices I was sad/glad to see it. I needed a slap in the face and I am hoping this will be the needed wake up call that I so badly want. I cant say I have been really 100% bad. I am still working out probably 4 days a week. The part that is dragging me down in my diet. Its pretty much been trashed since Vegas and has never fully recovered. I have gotten used to eating junk again and now I have to retrain my brain to eat healthy and be ok with feeling hungry again. Every time I get close to my goal of the 180s I go and sabotage myself. Now I am up 5-6 pounds and I need to turn things around before it turns into 20-30 lbs.

Anyway enough said its time to do something.

Reflection

As I reflect upon the last month and a half or so I have come to realize that there have been glimpses of normalcy or small indications of getting back on track. Then I throw another 4 or 5 days of bad eating and less exercise into the mix and screw things up. This last weekend we had our annual friends and family camp out. The entire weekend went by without a "Hey man you look like you lost some weight". Some of these people are people I see once a year or maybe twice at most. This got me thinking and I looked back into my blog and realized I have only lost about 15 pounds from this time last year. For a year that I really feel like I busted my ass 15 pounds really isn't much. Granted in typical Ripx fashion I gained some back and had to re loose it. During the last year I have done a full round of P90 and almost 3 rounds of P90x. In the workout world I would consider P90x as no joke. This means I need to continue to analyze my food intake and continue to tweak my workout regiment. It also made me realize that I have not accomplished near as much as I had fooled myself into thinking I had. I can really see a trend in my blogging years. If trends hold true I am due to gain a bunch of weight back. The last month and a half I have really been doing a good job of attempting to do just that. The one thing that is blaring in my head right now is its time to break the cycle. Its time for me to stop being fat Ripx and fully transform over to the Ripx I am today or the lighter leaner Ripx of the future. I have no business going back into 200 territory. My body was not functioning correctly at 240+. I feel pretty good in the 190s so how much better would I feel in the 180s or 170s for that matter? Matter of fact its possible that I crossed into 200 territory over the weekend. Moment of truth on the scale happens tomorrow morning. Do yourself a favor and look at what your blog had to say a year ago, it really helped me put things in perspective.

Today I still have my goal of wanting to be 180s something by my 35th b-day. Its been on the radar for a long time and I have pretty much wasted the last two months f-ing around. I am sure I am looking at loosing 10-12 pounds in about 60 days. That's allot of pounds in my world... But I am still dedicated to making it happen.

Insanity, the workout series showed up on my front doorstep yesterday when I got home from the long weekend. It was almost like a challenge or a wake up call saying "I am a 60 day workout series and you have 60 days to hit your b-day goal". So guess what today is? Today is day 1 of 60 with Shawn T and his Insanity series. Am I scared? yeah a little but not scared enough to back down. I am sure I will be rambling on my blog about this in days to come. I am doing measurements and pictures tonight to document what it can do for a average Joe like me.

Well this has turned out to be a long winded blog post. As always thanks to those of you who read and spur me on from time to time. Expect more frequent updates and posts from me in the next few months.

As Scheduled

WI: 196

Yesterday went pretty much as I planned. Descent food and a good round of exercise leads to dropping the quick gained BS lbs. Today, more of the same. Lunch is packed and a workout is scheduled. Maybe I will see a 195 tomorrow, that would be nice. I am trying to really focus in on my mid September goal. I hope I am not too late and realistically I don't think I am.

As Promised

Well I finally worked up the guts to get on the scale this morning. 197.6. A little high but not as bad as I expected. I ate pretty descent yesterday and did Core Syn from the P90x workouts. I packed my lunch and I have my workout gear ready for right after work. Tonight's workout is PlyoX which is always a killer. Then I drive home and eat something healthy for dinner and spend a little time with my kids. Well what do you know, its feels like the old schedule is coming back. Time to start making some progress.

On a side note as you all know I am a big fan of P90x. Beachbody who put out the X just released a new series of workouts called "Insanity". It looks pretty intense and I am thinking of picking it up to give it a try. I guess I could always mix and match the workouts with the X and make a custom ass kicking.

Anyway hope you are all doing well and winning the battle of the bulge.

Time to Put Up or Shut Up

Well last weekend we made our big move and are now in our new house. Everything inside is in a state of disarray still needing to be unpacked and put where it belongs. I kind of feel like that is where I am personally too. I have managed to string together several weeks of not eating so well and not working out as much as I would like. Kind of like the Ripx 240 pounder that hated how he looked and felt. Today I say that's enough of that. Its time for me to take the reigns and get things back on track and heading in the right direction. I was afraid to step on the scale this morning so tomorrow come hell or high water I will be posting a number that will put things in perspective for me. Tonight I will workout and pack my lunch. My 35th b-day is right around the corner and I still have every intention of being in the 180s.

Holding Pattern

WI:197.4

Well as you can see not much has changed weight wise. To me that's a good thing and a bad thing. I am happy to be holding sub 200 but I am no where near where I want to be yet. The house hunt has really heated up and if all the stars align we should be in a new place the weekend of July 10th. We have a buyer for our place and a accepted offer on our new place. There is just a ton of calendar juggling that has to happen in the next few weeks. I am trying to continue to workout 4-5 times a week and do my best with my diet given the circumstances at hand....

Publicly (and for accountability) I am going to give a promise to myself.... I still have my goal of hitting the 180s range by my 35th birthday (mid September) and I intend to hit it. I know this means I need to get busy now and not later.

To all my blog buddies keep inspiring me by getting it done.

Fat Flounder

WI:198.2

Well as you can see my weight is sneaking up a bit on me. I have still been exercising about 5 times a week but the diet has definitely slid or I guess continued to slide. As I figured the house hunt and all leading up to it is taking its toll. I spent about 7 hours in the garage yesterday just going through stuff and boxing stuff up. Had a great father's day, spent some time with my boys and some time with my dad.

I know I need to get things turned around diet wise and I also need to start blogging more frequently. We put in another bid on a house and we should know something this week so hopefully this one will come through. I am ready to be back at a somewhat normal schedule again.

Quick Hit

WI: 196.4

Its coming back down.... I missed my workout as I forecasted. We did see a house that we really like but its a little over our budget. We are going to try to put in a low offer and see what happens (its a buyers market). It's in fates hands now. If it works out then great, if it doesn't it wasn't meant to be. I just hope it does cause both my wife and I really like the place.

Tonight we are taking my parents out to dinner as a thanks for watching our little ones while we were in Vegas. We are going to one of my favorite restaurants so I know its not gonna be a good diet night. One of those times I am choosing to cheat (since I hardly ever go to this place). I am really looking forward to it. With that said I am still planning on getting in a workout tonight even if its late. Yes, I still have a goal and I haven't got there yet ;)

TGIMF (thank god its my Friday).

Mixed

WI: 197.6

Last night I did my usual 4 mile run and kept my diet pretty clean (including packing my lunch). I did eat to many carbs (rice two times yesterday and a hazelnut latte). I need to get back to cycling my carbs like did a month ago. It seemed to work well and I didn't feel all that deprived. I have realized that its pretty easy for me to maintain a weight but really hard to loose it and somewhat easy to gain (fat). If I maintain a reasonable exercise regiment and semi good eating my body just seems to lock into what ever area I am currently at. I have not reached my goals yet so its not time to give up. I want to loose another 15-20lbs and in the scheme of things that doesn't sound like much. I have started to notice a trend for me. I loose 7-10 pounds then sit stagnate for like 2 months before loosing more weight. I just want to finish the cut and get to where I want to be weight wise so I can maintain.

Tonight we are lined up to look at a few houses after work. So its going to be hard to fit in a workout (truthfully I don't think its gonna happen). Looks like salad for lunch and something smaller for dinner to offset the missed workout. Thanks for all your support and comments lately, it does help.

Well I kind of feel like I am just rambling on about not much so I will cut this short.

Struggling and Whatnot

WI:??? 196.4 (on Saturday morn).

Well as the title says I am struggling a little with staying focused like I said I was going too. I missed two cardio workouts last week and the diet has been not so great. We have been eating out way too much and the house search/sale is taking more of a toll than I expected. Luckily our home inspection went pretty well so now we have shifted gears to trying to find the new place. We are finding that what we want vs our budget is not totally in line. Its doable but it's a stretch. It's looking like we are going to have to find a temporary other place to live while trying to find the right match. That means moving stuff twice and turning our life upside down. Anyway I will quit whining about it as I know we are fortunate to have what we have. My diet has been allot of not eating much early to allow for eating more and crap later. There has been too much beer and sweets filtering in. The number one strike against me is I have been buying lunch and not making it like I usually do. Anyway, I know I need to right this ship before I get too far off course. I also need to continue to make more posts to my blog here, it does help.

Not To Bad

WI: 195.8

Well considering the Vegas 4-5 days and following weekend of not so great eating I am not to unhappy. I should be back in my low range by the end of the week pretty easily. I did CoreSyn last night which marks the start of week 9 on the p90x program. I almost skipped it but didn't really want to loose momentum, glad I did it. Tonight is CardioX and a healthy diet (eating a cliff builder bar as I type this).

Things are going well in the personal life too. My youngest son (14 months) took his first 5-6 unassisted steps this last weekend. We also got a offer on our house which we accepted. Now starts the crazy search for a new bigger place. Life is going to be moving quick the next couple months. I need to keep diet and exercise in the big picture. There is no way I want to have to regain lost ground.

Sun, Fun, and Back to the Real

Well I am back from Vegas and ready to get back to normal eating and exercise. I did workout 2 of the days we were on vacation but I ate/drank pretty much what ever I wanted. Fitness and diet was however in the back of my head allot of the time. I still choose diet pops as mixers when available etc and tried to keep my calories lower by not eating as much when possible. Not a good way to live or loose weight but it was a good way to minimalize damage while on vacation. I am going to take a couple days away from the scale to normalize my weight before stepping on it to see where I am. Tonight I am planning a run and of course eating well is on the agenda.

While in Vegas we spent allot of time by the pool (Mandalay Bay). I still don't have the body I would like to have but I have to say I probably felt the most comfortable in my own skin that I ever have with my shirt off in public. I was still the soft guy in comparison to the friends I went with but that's ok. I am getting there and that's what counts. Both my body and mind are are healing because of the time and effort I have put into loosing weight, that alone is motivation enough to keep me moving forward.

Exercise, Good Food, Good WI

WI: 194.6

Well I like it I am at 194.6 (-.2) from my old new low and its only Tuesday. If I can keep my wits about me and not go to carby today I should be seeing some pretty good numbers this week. It's recovery week on p90x so more cardio than lifting. I am hoping to be Ripx 180 something in the next 3 weeks or so. I definitely have my work cut out for me but I am game.

Longest Run and Food

WI:195.6

Well this weekend wasn't exactly as good as I would have liked it to been diet wise. It wasn't horrible but I did have pizza one night, a few drinks, and some dessert. All things that do not fall into my diet on a regular bases. Exercise wise my weekend was spot on. I hit all my P90x workouts and hit them with intensity (especially KenpoX). Saturday morning I decided to do a long weekend run given the weather was so nice this weekend in the pacific northwest. I was up and dressed for my run by 8am ready to hit the street. I ran 7 miles in 1:14 (74min) and actually felt pretty dang good. My knees were a little sore and tired by the time I made my destination. It was weird for me to run for that long (time wise). My mind wandered from topic to topic as I reminded myself to just put one foot in front of the other. In a sense I kind of mentally checked myself out of feeling tired and concerned about how much further I had to go. I just new I had to get there and that I would. In a sense (to me) it was kind of a testament to how amazing the human body is both mentally and physically. It was the first time that I really felt my body just took over in a run. Then I started to think about how amazing you half and full marathon runners are.

Its Monday so here's to another good week of being healthy.

I do Love Fridays

WI: 194.8 (new low)

Well its Friday, I got a new low, I'm hanging with my boys and the weather is wonderful.  What more could a guy ask for.  The weather is supposed to be great all weekend so I can foresee a long 4+ mile run on a nature trail near here (maybe Saturday).

Last nights workout was productive.  I did the fountain of youth yoga and a shorter 2 mile run.  My diet was really solid except for some bottle cap candy that I let slip in (got to be truthful like Tigerlilly).  So what was supposed to be a low carb day kind of fizzled.  I am sure it was only like 150cals but it was pure sugar.  So I am a little mad at myself for that but hey it is what it is.  Energy wise my body has felt pretty flat the last few days.  I am hoping a few more carbs today will perk me back up.  It better cause I am looking at Legs and back x style today.

Smile www blogger peeps its FRIDAY!!!

Keep On Truck-N

WI: 195.4

Yesterday went pretty much as planned. Kept my carbs low and hit the cardio up. Dinner was kind of weird given we kind of winged it. It ended up being a omelet of sorts with what ever meat and veggies I could find to throw in. Today is a weight lifting day so I am allowing more carbs in as I will need the energy to really push through. I need to really be pushing my weight lifting days to a new level. I need more lean body mass! I am hoping to hit a totally new low this Friday. I kind of stalled out last week partially from getting sick and letting my diet slide some. I got the blinders back on so lets make this week a good one.

I'm Back...

WI: 196.2

As predicted the remainder of the day yesterday was good. I stuck to the diet and destroyed Core SynX. I pushed harder and farther then I have in a long time workout wise. I was nasty sweaty dripping like a ice cream cone on a 90 degree day. I did more reps, with more weight, and with more intensity, I felt really good afterwords both mentally and physically. I believe the sickness has left the building.

Today is a cardio day which means a lower carb day diet wise. All my food is packed and CardioX is on tap for tonight. I might try to throw in a run too if time allows. Its time for me to kick it back into high gear. Vegas is in 11 days and the cruise is only 135 days away.

Sickness and Resurgence

WI: 197.2

I guess allot has happened since I last blogged. The number one thing is I got really sick. I don't know if it was food poisoning or some kind of flu. It came on really hard last Wednesday night and Thursday. I had a guys weekend planned for the weekend on the Puget Sound with some good friends fishing. By Thursday night when I was supposed to be leaving the vomiting and frequent bathroom breaks had quit so I decided to make a go of it (thinking it was food poisoning that was going to pass quickly). To make a long story short I never did feel 100% the entire weekend. My friends all enjoyed lots of beers and junk food while I couldn't stomach it nor did I have much of a appetite. I wish I could have been feeling better cause it was a beautiful weekend on the Pudget Sound. We did catch some fish and had lots of laughs.

On the negative side I missed 3 of my P90x workouts. Last night I decided to try a run. I did a 5k in a little over 30 minutes. I had every intention of doing a 4+ mile run but I could tell my body wasn't happy with me. So I cut it short and then did Ab Ripper X. Tonight I am going to try to get back on schedule workout wise, I still don't feel 100% but I don't want to miss anymore workouts. I am hoping exerting myself a little and sweating will help clear out the evil sickness...

Well I had every intention of today being a low carb day but I just ate a stupid bagel. It was good for the couple minutes it took to consume it but now I am sitting here wondering wtf? ohhh well its done and the rest of my day will be perfect diet wise.

On another side note I am super stoked to see a few of my old blogger buddies coming on-line again. Great to see you blogging (Jason, Will, Billy, Kristen, and Gene). Looking forward to reading and commenting on your future posts. Will, what's up with deleting posts man? Are you trying to delete your supposed come back? Congrats David and Gene who's wives are both expecting (you both have more than one reason to get super healthy now). Keep training hard for your half marathons (Kristen and Tigerlilly). Until tomorrow....

As Promised

WI: 197.8 ouch...

Well like I said yesterday it was time to face the music by getting on the scale this morning. I didn't know if I should be happy or sad. I thought it would be worse but I hoped it would be better. I guess I did somewhat continue the bleeding last night with some more Cinco de Mayo celebration at a friends house (my workout partners), which was totally unplanned. I had a some chips, one margarita, and dinner (which was healthy). So hopefully I will have a descent weight dump in the next few days just getting back to normal scheduled eating. Last night was CardioX and I pushed it really hard and felt great after. Tonight is Chest/shoulders/tris which is a brutal workout and I am on my own (workout friend is sailing tonight). Here's to a good workout and clean eating today.

Somebody Stop Me!

WI:???
CC:??
CB: 500ish core synX

Well I have deliberately been avoiding the scale the last few days cause I didn't eat very well this last weekend. I thought I was going to put together a good day today food wise but forgot the office was having a Cinco De Mayo party. Well I brought my lunch and ate it then proceeded to eat a cupcake and a few other items from the party. Pretty stupid and I am sitting here feeling all down on myself and my cupcake induced sugar high. The really lame thing is last Friday I saw another new low 194.6. That put me within 2.4 pounds of the lowest I have been in 10 years. So what do I do, I start eating. I am getting on the scale tomorrow morning and facing the music... come hell or high water its time to right this fat ass boat from sinking. Vegas is 2.5 weeks away so I need to really focus. More to come tomorrow.

TGIMF....

WI: 196.6 (new low)

I don't know if 2 tenths of a pound counts as a new low but whatever I will take it especially after a carb day ;). Work out last night was intense (chest, shoulders, and tris). I think it has to be one of the hardest upper body workouts in the P90x box. My arms and shoulders where burning and killing me by the end of the workout. I got to the point where I couldn't even do pushups girl style (knees on the ground) I was so wasted. Today is Yoga and a run combined with low carb chow so it should be a good one and hopefully a good weigh in tomorrow. I am digging starting the weekends right.

I don't want to jinx anything (knock on wood) but I feel like I have finally broken through the last plateau I have been stuck in for like 3 months. I cant lie it feels really good. The movement on the scale and what feels like validation has really helped motivate me to push harder. Here's to continuing this downward trend.

Chuging Along

WI: 196.8 (new low)

Well a few more pounds and I think I will have enough padding to say goodbye to 2 hundy forever. There really is no reason to go back there, its not a good place for me. I like my new place in Onederland.

Today is a carb day for me ;). I was feeling pretty weak last night after my cardio workout. Dinner helped a little but I am glad I get to eat a few more carbs today. Today's workout is Chest, shoulders, tris, and abs. I haven't done this particular workout in some time so I am looking forward to it. I am going to really try to up the weight and push it hard tonight.

To my few readers keep it rolling in the right direction.

Staying Strong

WI: 197.6
CC: l500
CB: 500ish (core synX)

Yesterday my eating was text book lower carb chow. Today is another lower carb day and Wednesday I will add some carbs back in for a lifting P90x routine. I have a huge salad with some grilled chicken for lunch today that I am looking forward to. Then tonight is a home made fish taco (cod) on a low carb wrap (yummm). If I stick to my game plan I will see some new lows this week.

We have already had two showings of our house in the 4 days its been on the market. I think in today's market that's not to bad. I hope we get a offer sooner than later. I am definitely ready to move onto a bigger place.

Well I am going to keep this short today. Hope everyone else is doing well.

Breaking New Ground

WI: 197.6 (new low)
CC: 1676
CB: 600

It felt good to see a totally new number on the scale this morning.  I need to keep making distance from that big 2 number.  I guess the carb cycling thing is working this week.  I know it maybe water weight but either way it feels good.  I have been at this a long time a many of you know.  Its hard to not get into the weekend mentality but I am going to try really hard to keep it on the strait and narrow.  I had a really good solo run last night in my neighborhood, tackled some pretty nasty hills.  My workout partner has been kind of mia this week.  He likes to sail and the race season just started up so its been consuming his evenings.  Nothing I can do about that but press forward solo.  There is no room for failure.

Today is CardioX and I might add in some shoulders and arms.  Its been 3 days of lower carbs so I feel like I need to reload a little.  If I do it will be earlier in the day.  I tell you what, it's hard to get all your calories on a lower carb diet.

Well the weekend is here so everyone stay strong!!!

I Feel the Change

WI: 199.0
CC: NA
CB: 500 (KenpoX)

Well like I mentioned in my last post I had a couple questionable diet days this last weekend. This week is almost over and we are about to fall into the next weekend. I am going to keep my diet cleaner this weekend. I have started to do a carb cycle in hopes of dropping more weight ( I will try just about anything). So on lifting days my carbs will be a little higher and on cardio days I will keep it lower. I was doing research on body types and found a site were you take a multiple choice test to determine your body type. I came out as a mix of Endomorph and Mesomorph. It went on to say that my body type is carb sensitive and can hold water. It also said that I should be making all my workouts into somewhat of a cardio experience. Weight lifting days should be more circuit style training etc with short breaks in between sets. After reading the definitions of the body types i can definitely see some of the characteristics of both in me. Got to keep trying new things until I find the right formula, failure is not a option.

Tonight's workout is Xstretch and most likely a run. Things have gotten kind of chaotic and out of the norm around my place. Our house went on the market today so everything has to be just so in the house. Good luck doing that with two young boys tearing everything up. I hope it doesn't take forever to sale our place. I know its a sucky time to sale but its a great time to buy.

Have a great day, eat good, smile, get some exercise.... repeat!

A Little Laxidasical

WI: NA
CC: NA
CB: NA

As the subject line says I have been somewhat in a state of sloth and apathy. Truthfully I haven't missed a workout but my diet kind of sucked this weekend. It sucked bad enough that I didn't want to get on the scale this morning to see what damage I had done. Friday I stayed on course but Saturday night I had pizza and drinks with friends while watching the UFC. I ate 3 and a half pieces of pizza from papa murphy's and a fist full of other random stuff. Yesterdays food was pretty descent until dinner when I decided to get Thai take out (chicken Phad Thai for me). I did however go on a good run last night. We ran 4 miles and I felt really strong and fast. My workout friend even said I pushed the pace. I had to smile cause we had another friend who appears to be in much better shape go running with us. You know the typical 5'10" 170 pound fit guy. Well we reduced him to walking as we would run ahead and back. I could tell he was surprised how good of shape we were in in comparison to how we look (I guess). It felt pretty good.

We are finally getting some really nice weather out here in the pacific northwest. I was out back on Sunday getting some yard work done and decided to take my shirt off to get some sun. As I was walking by our slider I saw my reflection. I was quickly reminded why I don't feel comfy with my shirt off. I just cant seem to shake the body fat. I feel like I have put a ton of effort and dedication into loosing weight many times in my life and I always get the same results "skinny fat".... Granted I am not even skinny fat yet.. but all the weight lifting I do just doesn't change my shape much. I still look like someone squeezed me out of a tooth paste tube.... It just always puts my thoughts back into the "Why am I trying so hard if I am never going to get the body I want" mode. The health benefits are nice but do I have to go as hard as I do to get those, I don't know.

Besides that life is good. We are getting ready to put our first home on the market in hopes of upgrading to something larger.

Quick Fly By

WI: 199.8
CB: 1100ish
CC: 1850

The good.... I am still under 200 this morning. The bad... I ended up eating more crap than I planned to on Easter. There was so much good food at the Easter brunch along with 3 types of deserts for the people's b-days we were celebrating. Well I had a little of each dessert and a ton of food. Probably got all my calories in that day in one meal or more. The rest of the weekend I was good calories wise and I didn't miss any workouts. I did have some booze on Saturday night but I adjusted my calories accordingly.

Yesterday was back to 100% on track. I ran a 4.5 mile run that burnt 700 calories and did CoreSynX. Tonight is cardioX and maybe some time on the stationary bike. Its time to make some new ground.

This last weekend showed me that I still have some mental battle to work through when it comes to food on weekends. I know it was a holiday but is that really an excuse. I didn't plan it so it shouldn't have happened. Live and learn right?

Heres Johnny

WI: 199.4 (new low)
CB: 600
CC: 1850

It took me a while but just like Johnny I was able to chop a hole in the door to Onderland and sneak back in.  Given my dedication the last few weeks it felt great to finally get back and to a lower point that I haven't seen since starting the "learning to live" journey.  Now I just have to keep my head to the grindstone and keep doing what is right.  Tonight is supposed to be Legs and Back but my workout partner is sounding kind of like he may want to take tonight off instead of Sunday.  We will see what happens.  Food has been good so far today however as I write this I only have about 600 calories left for the day.  So dinner is going to be healthy and pretty light.  I have some trout that I was thinking of smoking today.  That might be yummy.   Anyway hope everyone else is starting their weekends our a little lighter.

Go Eat Yourself Krispy Creme

WI: 200.2
CB: 380
CC:1834

Well I almost didn't write today cause I feel like my daily rambling is kind of boring. Once again I was hoping for a sub 200 weigh in but it eluded me yet another day. At this point in the my journey I feel like I am doing it right. Before I was eating not enough for several days then I would blow it on the weekends. Now since starting to count calories I feel like I am more consistent. Even if I eat something bad the calories are counted and I really try to not go over. I just hope the body will react as I expect it to over time. I am feeling leaner even though the scale hasn't dropped a ton. Hopefully in the next few days I will be able to post a new low. The weekend is officially almost here for me. There will be plenty of temptation at the family Easter brunch. We are also celebrating 3 relatives b-days (lots of April B-days in my family). So I am sure there will be deserts and other things that will destroy a healthy diet. At this point I feel like my willpower and desire to loose weight will get me through.

The title of this post is in reference to the treats that Management brought in today to feed to us worker bees. I was so hoping it would be a fruit tray and coffee or even a bagel for that matter. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE doughnuts but I am not going to eat them. I think its been like a year or longer since I had my last doughnut. I even was offered a "Voodoo"(local doughnut attraction - they have some with bacon on them and other weird shnizzle) doughnut last weekend and passed it up. Anyway I wish managers of the world would realize that computer people or people with desk jobs don't really need to be scarfing down on pizza and doughnuts.

Diet and exercise was spot on yesterday. Today is Yoga (yuck) and a 5k run.

Still Cranking

WI: 200.6
CB: 1164
CC: 2134

I am going to start abbreviating my stats at the top cause I don't want to spell them out each day. WI = Weigh In, CB = Calories Burnt, CC = Calories Consumed. I expected to have a lower weigh in today given my strenuous workout. Hopefully my effort from last night will show up on the scale tomorrow in a number that starts with a 1. Last night Dan and I did a 4.4 mile run and then did CardioX. I was freaking whipped by the end and was sweating like mad. We had Mexican food last night (burritos) on low cal ww skins. We also used ground turkey, quinoa, avocado, whole beans crushed to mimic re fried beans, low fat mozzarella, and some salsa and hot sauce. It was really good but I ended up eating two instead of one which put me right at 800 cals for dinner alone. I actually felt a little over full so I need to make a mental note about that. Probably part of the reason I didn't get my weigh in I wanted today. So tonight is shoulder and arms with no plan for a run as of now. I will definitely stick with a smaller portion for dinner tonight. We are having lamb and some kind of veggie.

Almost Back to Uncharted Territory

Today's Weigh In: 201
Yesterdays Calories: 1850
Calories burnt: 450

Well I am closing back in on Onderland and a new low. A little over a pound and I will be there. So far being scientific and counting calories has really helped to loose my vacation weight and get me back in the game. If I continue to be strict and loose weight at the rate my calculations say I should I am going to be super happy. Then the other part of me will be super frustrated because I could have just buckled down and got it done a long time ago. Anyway we will see how it goes. Last night was CoreSynX. My intensity was a little lacking as my energy seems to be a little low. My body was still really sore from Legs and back also. Don't get me wrong I still pushed hard and was all sweaty by the end. Tonight is CardioX and run around the neighborhood. We have a couple 3 to 3.5 mile runs mapped out. The weather has been great the last few days, I sure have enjoyed the sun.

Desent Weekend

Today's Weigh In: 202.4
Yesterdays Calories: 2654
Calories Burnt: 360

Well the weekend went well considering the temptations that where put in front of me. I did have 4 beers on Friday however they were all Michelob Ultra by my choice which come in at 95 calories each. I stayed right at my calorie goal for Friday and Saturday (higher end). Yesterdays calories where a bit higher because my wife and I had a day on the town without kids. We went and saw the play Wicked and then enjoyed a nice dinner out at McCormick & Schmick's (seafood) in downtown Portland. I had my dinner all planned out to be healthy. Ordered unsweetened ice tea, spinach salad, and steelhead with greens over rice. My wife wanted to have a appetizer and since it was a special day out I told her cool and that she could pick. Well she chose the fried calamari. Originally I wasn't going to have any but there was a ton and someone had to help eat it right? So I dug in and it was really good but I am sure really bad. So my calories for Sunday where somewhat of a guess. I skipped desert and a gin and tonic I wanted really bad. I was a little bummed about my choice but I don't think its a bad thing to have a spike in calories from time to time. So we got home at about 7 and I headed over to my friends to go do my workout (kenpoX). I felt kind of lethargic and was slightly kind of just going through the motions. I still got my heart rate up and worked up a good sweat. Tonight is CoreSynX with the possibility of a run. Food is all packed and calories are counted. Here's to another good week and the possibility of getting back into Onederland.

Weird Science

Today's Weigh In : 202.6
Yesterdays Calories: 1786 (little low)
Calories burnt: 300

So far the science of calorie counting is working for me. I am loosing my quick gained Idaho weight at a pretty good clip. At 202.6 I am close to were I was when I left for Idaho. So we will see if nutritional science continues to work as I get back into Onderland. Since the title of this blog was weird science I have to pay a little homage (in the form of pics) to the movie which I loved as a teen growing up.

Well yesterday pretty much went exactly as I planned it to go both in the diet and exercise front. I knew I was doing shoulder and arms night which isn't a barn burner when it comes to calorie extraction. So I kept my calories down a little. Today we leave for the lake cabin for the night. Tonight is the night where the drinking of some beers is most likely. So I am going to keep my calories down for the first part of the day to get a feel for what is going to happen. I still want to hit around 2k mark so its gonna be light beer if I drink any. Anyway its Friday (TGIF) but this is the hard part of the week. I will stick to my science this weekend come hell or high water!!! I am even planning on writing a blog to let you all know how its going ;). Have a good weekend!!

Check-n In

Today's Weigh In: 204.2
Calories Consumed Yesterday : 2200
Calories Burnt: 850ish

Well by the time I got home from work yesterday I had only ate about 1200 calories so I was pretty hungry. It was time to workout before having dinner. I went to my friend Dan's (workout buddy) to do Shoulder and Arms. I was quickly introduced to his nieces husband who is in his early 20s and weighs about 160 at 5'8' (a typical runners body). Anyway they let me know that he was interested in doing our workout with us tonight and Dan had told him we were running too. I had no intention of running last night but given the circumstance I was game for it. Nothing wrong with burning a extra 500 calories or so right? Anyway we went out to do shoulders and arms and couldn't find his dvd so we ended up switching Yoga (which was supposed to be tonight) with shoulder and arms which will now be tonight. We did the fountain of youth version and then headed out for our run. We did our hilly 3.5 mile run which usually comes in right around 500 calories for me. I was totally unprepared for it. I had my old shoes on and a t-shirt and shorts and no heart rate monitor. Normally this wouldn't be a problem but it was cold and rainy out. Anyway, i froze but got through it. I ended up eating more during dinner than I planned. It was healthy but my portions where larger. Given the amount of exercise I wasn't to bothered by it. We had home made fajitas which were lean chicken breast with lots of veggies, whole grain rice, avocado, salsa etc... mmmm mmmm good. Well there you have it that was the day in a nut shell. Later.....

Still Rolling

Today's Weigh in : 204.8
Yesterdays Calories: 2049
Calories Burnt : 1010

Well if you didn't read my last post scroll down and check it out. Yesterday was pretty much text book where I want to be. I did have to add a second whey protein shake to get my calories up to where I wanted them. Eating 2k calories of good clean food is allot of chow. I pushed really hard on my workout yesterday. We did a 3 mile run that took about 30 minutes and then rolled right into cardioX (p90x workout). Total workout time ended up being a little over a hour and 20 mins. The polar watch reported 1010 calories burnt. I was in my heart rate zone for over a hour of that time (125 - 160bpm). max heart rate was during cardioX at 168... Tonight's workout is shoulders and arms so I wont be burning as many calories. Food is all planned and ready for they day and is looking to come in just shy of 2k cals.

My friend wants me to go fishing with him this weekend which means he will want to consume some beers. Not sure where I want to stand with alcohol right now. I know I could eat less and still stay within my calorie range. But is putting garbage (beer) in going to hurt my results?

Until tomorrow.

Time to get all Scientific up in this Biatch....

So first off I know I haven't posted in well 2 weeks... I thought I only missed a week but hey the date stamp doesn't lie (march 15). If you read regularly at all you know I was on vacation in Idaho for a full week. I guess the prep leading up to it and finishing out this last weekend kept me away from the blog. I didn't swing the diet wrecking ball until Friday the 20th (the day we left for Idaho). I worked out hard and ate well up until that point. So needless to say I ate and drank like the old me for the last week. Truthfully my newer/truer self was in the back of my head the whole time saying your gonna pay for this jackassery that your committing. If it was on the bad list I probably ate it (yeah, pizza, ice cream, cookies, clam chowder, fried Chinese, Thai, chips, booze, etc...). I found myself in "Hey, I am on vacation" mode. I did find time to workout 2 times, played hoops, swam, and snow skied two days also, so we were somewhat active. Well I got on the scale this morning and knew it was going to be bad. Bad to the tune of 206.8. Yes..... ouch that hurt. Now my hope is that I can at least loose it as fast as I gained it. I am sure I can get back into the low 200s by the end of this week. I really need to get back in Onederland where I belong but I know that is crazy hard. We had a great time in Idaho. I skied better than I have in years due to my weight loss and fitness program. It was so much more fun to ski in better shape. Well I am now off vacation and its back to regular scheduled programming. Here are a few pics from the week.

While we were in Idaho we celebrated my youngest's 1st birthday so I have to post a few pics of that too. As you can see he liked his first slice of cake.
Now to get to the meat and potatoes of this post. My good blogger buddy David from the north asked me "Is your head still in it?". I say Hell yeah, I still have tons of shit to get done. With that being said I have decided to get all scientific because I am frankly tired of F-n around. I am going to count calories in (food using fitday) and calories out (workout cals burnt) and plug them into some simple equations that are easily found on the web here. First I am going to calc my BMR

Mens BMR = 66 + (6.3 x Body Weight in lbs) + (12.9 x Height in inches) - (6.8 x age)
66+(6.3*206)+(12.9*72)-(6.8*34) = 2061.4

This gives me my Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) which is the amount of calories your body burns in a day, given that you do nothing more than exist. No eating, no walking, no getting out of bed. These are your ‘existence’ calories. From there you want to times it by a activity multiplier. I am going to choose 1.55 for moderate activity (given P90x).

2061.4 * 1.55 = 3195.17 calories.

subtract a thousand calories a day to theoretically give me a 2 pound weight loss a week (1 pound of fat = 3500 calories so -1000cals day * 7 = -7000 calories or 2 pounds lost a week).

My goal is to report weekly about my findings. The only way for me to really realize whats going on is to do what I am proposing. I want "more" results so I am ready to put forth the extra effort not only in my workouts but also in my diet. I have said "Diet is more than 90% of loosing weight" a million times. I am not loosing weight as fast as I want to so now its time to give just as much effort to my diet as I do my exercise and see where the chips fall.

So yesterday my first day at being "scientific" my calories came in at 1796 (a little low) and workout calories where -545 via polar watch while doing CoreSynX (p90x). Today I have my breakfast, snacks, and lunch packed putting me at 1300ish calories before dinner. Workout for tonight is a run and cardioX. My wife is counting calories too so hopefully that will help since she prepares allot of our meals.

wish me luck and please stop by and leave me some comments from time to time. I can truthfully use the support of anyone who has the time to read and advise. I miss the active blog community we used to have.

Run Complete

Well I am a little disappointed..... I ran the 5k in 30:35. In all truthfulness there was 20K people crowded down in Portland waterfront and I wasn't able to run as fast I wanted too. It took us all most 4 mins to even hit the start line it was so packed. The race was chipped for time and I hit the finishing crowd wall before the finish line so I know I would have busted my 30 min time if it was me and a a stop watch. So its kind of a bummer that it doesn't read less than 30mins but mentally I know I had it and there really wasn't anything I could do about it. My 3 year old son did the kids 1k and did really well too. It dumped rain the entire event besides that it was allot of fun and I enjoyed running in the shamrock run. Anyway its monday so lets put in another good week. This is my last week of p90x. Then it's a week off in Idaho and then I will be back and back at it.

Keeping it Real...

Today's Weigh In: 200.2

The main point of this post is mostly to push my last post down the page ;)... I am not too fond of looking at pictures of myself with my shirt off lol...

The last few days have been really good diet and exercise wise. I pounded out plyo on Tuesday and was pretty sore yesterday. My friend Dan and I got out and ran 3.5 miles in 33:00 minutes outside. That included a good half mile of pretty good hills which meant another half mile of down hill. I think the downhills are almost worse than the uphill. I have to put so much energy into keeping my speed down. It is definitely much nicer running with a friend outside in comparison to running on the treadmill. On the way home from work I stopped by our local Sports Authority and got a new heart rate monitor watch. I picked up the Polar F4. Not the cheapest but close to it at $89 bucks. It worked really well and tracks the things that I care to track. like I said around 33 min, 550 cals, average hr 151bpm etc. I think its going to be used allot. I want to see what kind of calories I am burning in the P90x workouts. Plus it will be a very good tool to make sure I am getting in the zone and not dogging it.

So this coming weekend I found a organized 5k run that Dan, his two kids, and myself are going to participate in. I wanted to try a 10k but they didnt offer it. They had a 8k and a 15k. Truthfully a 10k may have been a little aggresive for me. My son is going to do a 1k and my wife and some friends are going to do the 3.5k fitness walk. It should be allot of fun and a good way to start a Sunday. I am going to try to post a sub 30min 5k..... We will see what happens, wish me luck.

Warning..... Fat Guy With His Shirt Off

I have been saying I was going to post some new pics once I hit the 200 pound mark. So in an attempt to hold myself accountable and follow up on my word I am actually going to do it. Of course you can click on them and make them bigger (note: I am not liable for any permanent mental scaring or eye damage ;) ). I posted pics quite a while back at the 220 mark so now I am doing 240 vs 220 vs 200. I can see a fair amount of change in the side shots but the front shot I was hoping for more. One thing posting these pictures will make me want to do is see what 180 will look like. These photos confirm that I still have allot of body fat to loose. We are booking a cruise for Oct 09 and I want to be beach/shirtless ready

Weekend Havoc

Following a sweet sub 200 weigh in you would think I would have had the eye of the tiger. Well happens I did not and having fun and living life put me back on the north side of Onederland. Granted diet and exercise were never that far from the front of my mind and I did make many conscious decisions. As usual I am hoping that my 2 days of dumb eating will come off as fast as it went on. Not like I was consuming 5000 calories a day or anything so you know what should happen as do I.

The diet has been really good this week and I am killing the workouts with a new heightened sense of intensity. I have a week and a half left in this round of P90x. Then it will be a week off in Idaho skiing on vacation. Upon my return I am planning on heading strait into another round of P90x. Yesterday I ran 5 miles in 52 mines burning 820 calories via my polar watch. Then about a half hour later I did my P90x workout chest and back. I thought the run would maybe tire me out too much but I felt pretty good. Had some chicken breast on the grill and a spinach based salad for dinner.

I am going to try to find a St. Patrick's day run to do this next week (5k or 10k). Maybe I should look for a 10k so I can mark that off my goal list. ;). I have added a few more goals to my sidebar and have a few more I am considering. I feel like the 188 by Vegas may be a little aggressive given my past but why not shoot for the stars?

I will try to keep posting more frequently. Thank you to all of you that left comments it really helps keep me motivated.

Bang Bang Bang Open the Doors!!!!

I'm coming through to Onederland.....

Well had to make a quick post before getting in the car and driving to Seattle. I made it, just barely but it still felt great to see that 1 in front of my number. I actually danced a little jig and grabbed my iPhone to snap the crappy pic to the left as proof. Anyway great way to start the weekend and had to share.

I was up at 5:45am this morning to get my p90x legs and back routine in. Its even more brutal in the early am. Hope everyone else is doing well.

Pre Weekend Update

Today's Weigh In: 201.8

I know I don't have to write it but "Yeah I am not happy about not being in Onederland". So last week I ran 5 times on top of my P90x workouts. All runs were 3miles + near a 10 min mile. This week so far I have done every p90x workout and am planning on running tonight and Saturday. Diet has been pretty solid minus a bagel I had yesterday. I guess what's really wrong with a bagel..?. The fact it wasn't planned I suppose, I was just hungry. So this weekend we are heading to Seattle to hang with some friends. I am planning my off day ( for p90x) on Saturday. Portion control and calorie control are going to be key for me this weekend. It's way to easy to get caught up in other peoples diets and drinks of course. But life is life and I am not about to stop living.

A little bit of progress has been made even though it doesn't show on the scale. If you remember back in mid to late December I had gotten a new scale. Yup, the one that reads body fat etc. You probably also remember I was pretty pissed to see I was 30.3% bf at 205lbs. Well I took my bf% the other day and it now shows 27.4. My visceral fat reading went from a 11 to a 10 also. So I think these are all good things and do kind of help show me that I am making some progress even though my weight isn't showing it so much. I also bought one of those manual fat calipers to test (since they are cheap). Well it came out very similar to what the scale said (27-28 range).

On a side note I ordered some new whey protein and some creatine which I am going to give a try. I know the creatine will probably up my weight a little do to water retention in my muscles but that's ok cause its a given.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

So Close Yet So Far

Today's Weigh In: 200.6 (new low)

That's right, I don't usually write on Saturdays but today is one of the few weekends where I have hit a new low. I am a little bummed that I have officially missed my Feb goal of <200. I worked really hard this week adding 3 runs on top of my p90x routine. Diet was pretty good for the most part but I really figured I needed extra calories with all the extra work I was doing. It just proves to me that If I buckle down I can get shit done (loose weight). Hopefully I will be seeing that 1 in front of my number soon. I suppose I still have today to hit my goal but my body is feeling pretty wasted and I am not going to do any crash dieting to reach it. Got to always remember that the number on the scale isn't the most important thing.... just a progress measure. Hope everyone else is having a good weekend.

Shorty

Today's Weigh In: 203.2

Well looks like I have battled back down to where I have been weight wise which is good but not good in relation to my February goals. I guess it is what it is so that's that. My lunch yesterday was not the best choice but besides that my diet was descent. I did bust my azz in the workout front. The place I work decided to set 5 furlough days between now and July 1 (to save $$$s for FY09). So every month I have a week where I work four 8 hour shifts instead of four 10 hours shifts. Makes for a really nice short day and gets me home around 3 or a little after. So yesterday after my not so good lunch i felt guilty and thought to myself that I needed to burn it off. So I ran 5 miles on the treadmill in 52 mins which burnt 810 calories via my polar heart rate monitor. Shortly after 5 I did my p90x workout (shoulders & arms) with my friend. So by the time I got home I was whipped. I guess if I am looking at calories alone I did ok yesterday.

Tonight is YogaX which I really dislike. I think the main thing I don't like about it is its way too long at 90mins. Most people who do the p90x with results and consistency end up really liking the YogaX. I am still waiting for that to happen to me. ;). But I am committed to the program so I will be doing it tonight.

I just picked up the new "Red" album. Its pretty good and I am digging it.

If your reading this keep up the good fight against the fat.
