ME...

I know my numbers have been less then shiny the last few weeks (2 full weeks of nothing). I am totally unhappy with my progress and know what is to blame. This next week I am going to put up some new lows. However I would still like to call on my F.A.T brothers and sisters to unleash hell if I pull off another lame week and blog about how I could have done better following the weekend. I am early on in my quest for health and fitness so I should be strong and dropping the pounds pretty regularly. It's time for the Rip man to get down to business. The FAT coalition has been leading by example in a major way this week, now its my turn to follow.

Back From a Long Weekend

I was happy to come back and see so much positive energy amongst the FAT coalition. So many new pictures of success that you all have earned through hard work and determination. After spending 4 nights out in the woods and not eating nearly as good as I could have I luckily didn't gain much weight. I did eat better than all the other people that where out there (besides my wife at times). I think it kind of help me realize that I don't have to eat like everyone else, that I can say "hey I am trying to loose some weight". I did have more slip ups then when I am in my own controlled life but I was cognitive to what I was putting in my mouth. We did go swimming and I did have to take off my shirt which I hate doing in public. I hope by our annual trip next year that I can take off my shirt and hold my head high. I think that would have to be my ultimate goal as I have never felt confident with my shirt off.

My wife made me a deal last night. I don't know if its a way for her to get out of work or a way to help motivate my jabba the hut butt. She said that she will make my lunches/snacks for me if I get in a good work out that day. She used to make them for me 50% of the time anyway but I took her challenge and have said in my head that it will help guarantee that I will work out at least Sunday-Wed :). I ran on the treadmill and did a upper body workout last night and sure enough there was my lunch ready and waiting this morning when I got up. Funny to think that my laziness may force me to workout so I don't have to make my own lunch.....go figure. I am getting my bike tuned up for some other activity which i can do outside.

reflecting on my journey so far I am kind of ashamed of my last couple weeks. I had been in sort of a funk and it showed in my weight loss and in my blogs. I am going to try to up my blogs in both attitude and frequency. I'm feeling like this could be a good month for the Rip-myster. I am going to really need to tighten down on everything to be able to scratch off my next goal on time.

As suspected no weight loss this week. I guess I only gained a .5lbs so thats not the end of the world. Thanks for all your thoughts yesterday. Seems like allot of FAT had a not so great weekend last week. I have a short week at work this week. We leave tomorrow night to spend 4 nights up camping. I am so looking forward to getting out in the great outdoors and away from city life for a little while.

Drawing a Blank

I know its been a while since I have written a blog. Recently I haven't been able to really think about anything that is worth writing about. I think I have kind of allowed little things (food) sneak in from time to time. Allot like what Rob was talking about on his vacation. In my head I'm thinking "I have done pretty good this weekend" but then I think about what exactly I have eaten and it hasn't been all that great. The quality of food really isn't up to par nor have I eaten enough the last few days. 2-3 meals a day on the weekend is just not going to cut it. I noticed I started getting grouchy yesterday evening at my son and wife cause my son was being whiny. It was 6:30pm and I had maybe eaten 300-400 calories since 10 that morning. I am one of those guys that if I don't eat I get grouchy. Don't know if my blood sugar goes down or what. So we ate a subway and I felt much better (grilled chicken breast with lots of veggies). I just think I have been kind of lazy when it comes to diet and exercise the last 3-4 days. I have also had a few thoughts of doubt creep into my mind at times. With all the support from this group there is also pressure to perform. Yes, I know that thought is stupid but part of me feels like if I don't do well I am letting you all down. I guess like everyone else I am just afraid of failure my inner FAT has a mind of its own. I know its not a race and that it takes time and consistency. I WILL PRESS ON AND I WILL SUCCEED. Most likely I will just break even this week weight wise (was at 228.5 this morning). I know something has to change for me to be successful on this journey.

Its Already Week 6?

Starting Weight: 240
Todays Weigh in : 227.5
5 day Average : 229
Weight Lost this week: 3
Total Weight lost : 12.5

Week 6 turned out pretty good for me with a 3lbs weight loss. I did have a couple major slip ups this weekend where I consumed some Thai food and a cheeseburger off the grill. Thats why my 5 day average is over a full pound higher than my weigh in today. Monday morning I weighed in at 231.... ouch, I was not happy seeing that on the scale. I got back to business on Monday diet wise and put 3+ miles on the treadmill for 550 calories (ran 95% of it). I have been noticing that there are days that I feel like a hungry hippo. Even though I am eating like 6 times a day and solid good foods I still get the hunger signals from my body pretty bad. At this point I am able to label that in my head as my body loosing weight or its way of trying to say get fat. Thus far I have been able to be defiant and tell it to take a flying leap!(well 95% of the time) I hope with time the hunger will go away with the fat. Hopefully I can loose a few more pounds this week or at least my 1.5 pounds, which was my original goal. I hate the 3 steps forward 2 steps back, but that seems to be how my body works. We have a big annual family camp out coming up next week where I will be gone from wed-Sunday (back Sunday). Hopefully I can keep my diet decent at least and there is a ton of physical activity to help negate a few bad choices. I am looking forward to getting out of dodge and spending some time in the great outdoors away from work with friends and family.

GOAL!!!!!!!!

I had to post today as my weight has been coming down over the last week finally. I was actually 227.5 this AM which means I have completed my first goal a little ahead of schedule. I am excited to have earned the first coveted check mark on my goals. Problem is I cant figure out how to put the line through it. Anyway I was stoked to have reached my first goal so had to share with my support group :) Thanks for all your support FAT!

Lower Arm Sweat Baby!!!

Kristen this arm sweats for you and all that you do!!! :)... I was doing a round of HIIT and looked down and saw some sweet lower arm sweat and thought "Shoot Kristen would be proud of me!!" HAHA. (I always crack up when I read on your blog about arm sweat).

I was also reflecting on how people have said that exercising puts a positive impact on their children. My son (who just turned 2) was standing at the baby gate saying "Go Daddy!!!". Then when I was done I let him come in and he got up on the treadmill and was fake running and said "I'm like Daddy" with a big grin. It was so cute and I hope he grows up seeing exercise as a good part of living life well. Anyway just had to share.

Week 5 - The Same Old Song and Dance

Starting Weight: 240
Todays Weigh in : 230.5
5 day Average : 231.1
Weight Lost this week: .5
Total Weight lost : 9.5

Well I am starting to get a little frustrated. My weight just doesn't want to come down. Only .5 loss in the last 2 weeks (on my weekly weigh in on Tuesdays). I know my diet hasn't been 100% but it has been way better then I used to live. I am not giving up by any means, just venting. I know you have all been here before, but I imagined it happening much later in the game. I worked out hard last night, ran 3 miles strait without stopping at 5 mph (which I know is slow) but i am trying to build up my endurance. My heart monitor said I burnt a little over 600 calories and my heart rate was in the 155-168 range. The last 4-5 min I pushed it up to 6mph and quickly launched my heart rate into the high 170s. I felt really good about my effort and thought maybe I would be rewarded when I stepped on the scale this morning, but no I am looking at the same stupid numbers. My scale only does pounds in .5 increments so I cant get as detailed as some of you when trying to calc averages. Anyway I hope there is better progress for me next week...

It's 80% Diet....

Even though my blog entry title states "it's 80% diet" I am still having the toughest time with just that. This weekend I was probably fine calorie wise as I didn't eat near often enough but when i did eat it wasn't always the best choice (Thai one night, and pizza the next). I don't drink enough water on the weekends either. While at work its easy for me to fill up my 32 oz bottle and drink water all day (normally drink 3 of those a day). During work week my breakfast and lunches are totally planned and bullet proof. I don't know why I am having such a hard time with diet. I know what needs to be done and I just need to do it. Another thing I am having a hard time passing on is a beer/drink on the weekends. Seems like allot of the bbqs, poker games, camping, etc involve some aspect of social drinking. Everyone is saying "hey would like a beer" etc. I also know that alcohol is worthless filler for your body. Anyway I know to be successful I need to get my diet under control and pass up the majority of the beers/drinks offered on weekends. I guess Rome wasn't built over night so I cant expect that of my body. Then again Rome wasn't built out of mud (beer) and twigs(pizza) either.... Rebecca and Billy's insane amount of weight loss for the first week of the challenge really opened my eyes also (nice work you two). I was all happy with my 1.5lbs loss (considering my diet) until I signed onto the challenge central and saw what others had done. This next week I will step up my game..... I will, I will, I can, I will, It will be done......

Week 4......

Starting Weight: 240
Todays Weigh in : 231
Weight Lost this week: 0
Total Weight lost : 9

So no weight loss for this guy this week. I guess once again I can be thankful that I didn't gain weight as my last weekend was by far not perfect. However I did use muscles I havent used in some time so I am hoping maybe some of it is muscle weight :). I am battling a stinking cold as I type this. It is kind of putting a damper on my workouts a bit. I am still going through the motions they are just not as productive as usual. I cant believe Tomorrow is the 4th of July. Everyone have a wonderful and safe independence day.

................The Dotted Line...................

I was a little bummed to see this.......

While reading a post on Rebecca's/Rob's blog about censoring blogs etc I decided I needed to post this.

Our journeys are about so much more than just loosing weight. I enjoy reading about peoples lives and how it effects their physical journeys to becoming more healthy or obtaining their goals. It helps to show that we are all real people with real issues, that we all think allot of the same things. I agree that the whole "drama thing" got a little out of control but that will happen from time to time when you have real people with real emotions. The people that can not handle/hack reality will not stick in the FAT coalition. In any on-line community you are going to get people who don't behave correctly or fail to understand how to behave correctly. I think the Fab 4 (Rob, Billy, Beck and Kevin) created this to be much more than just a weight loss support group. I know weight loss is the main reason, but without hearing the day to day its so much less. I just recently talked about feeling like I kind of knew you all and how your names have become somewhat known in my household. Without general happenings you all will just be people loosing weight.

Anyway I hope no one thinks any less of me for voicing my opinion. I will continue to post blogs on random happenings in my life as I have previously, cause thats just me. If you don't want to comment on them or read them thats totally cool.

Crashed

I crashed several times dirt bike riding and a few times on my diet. I wasnt up a bunch of weight when I weighed myself Sunday morning when I got home but I know I could have done better. It was one of those "Guys" weekends where you throw in some dough and someone else buys all the meals etc. I was concious of my decisions and tried to use portion control as best as possible. It was a very physical weekend so I am sure I burnt many more calories than my normal day sitting at my computer at work. I re-found several muscles that I had forgot about, cause they are seriously sore. I also picked up a stinking cold and have this nasty cough where you cough so much you get a headache and you feel like you are going to cough up blood. I am going to try and get some cardio in tonight. Was going to post some pictures of my cool bruises I obtained crashing on some rocks but they are on my butt so proably not PC, nor does anyone want to see that :). Anyway hope everyone is staying on track. Watch out for the sneaky snacks on the 4th of July.
